Padres 6, Dodgers 5: Will Venable belted the game-tying double before scoring on Everth Cabrera's sacrifice fly in the ninth inning as host San Diego overcame a four-run deficit to stun Los Angeles.

Seth Smith belted a pair of solo homers among his three hits and Jake Goebbert had an RBI single for the Padres, who posted their third victory in 12 meetings with the Dodgers. Alexi Amarista had two hits and two runs scored in the victory.

With the Dodgers nursing a 5-3 lead in the ninth, Amarista led off with a single against closer Kenley Jansen (0-3) and came around to score on Carlos Quentin's pinch-hit RBI double down the left-field line. Venable followed with a double to center to plate pinch-runner Andrew Cashner and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt before coming home on Cabrera's fly ball to right.

The late uprising allowed Dale Thayer (3-2) to pick up the victory after allowing two hits in a scoreless inning of work. Jansen was charged with the loss after permitting three runs on as many hits in two-thirds of a frame.

Yasiel Puig had a two-run single before exiting with a mild hip strain and Dee Gordon tripled and scored twice for the Dodgers, who were thwarted in their bid for a season-high four-game winning streak. Matt Kemp had an RBI single in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to eight games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Dodgers jumped out of the blocks in a hurry as Gordon tripled and scored on a wild throw before Kemp doubled the advantage with a hard liner that caromed off the glove of a diving Amarista, allowing former Padre 1B Adrian Gonzalez to score. ... Kemp is 14-for-31 with 10 RBIs during his hitting streak. ... Smith went 3-for-3 with two runs scored after going 9-for-48 with one RBI in his previous games in June.
