Pirates 2, Dodgers 1: Ike Davis went 2-for-4 with a homer and Francisco Liriano struck out eight over 5 2/3 innings as visiting Pittsburgh edged Los Angeles.

Liriano (1-5) threw 100 pitches and allowed five hits en route to his first win in 12 starts this season. Three relievers bridged the gap to Jason Grilli, who retired the Dodgers in order for his seventh save and second in as many games.

Neil Walker’s RBI single with two outs in the third gave the Pirates an early lead against Josh Beckett (3-2), whose bid for a second consecutive no-hitter ended early as Russell Martin singled with one out in the second inning. Beckett yielded two runs on five hits over five frames for the Dodgers, who lost their third in a row.

Davis began the fourth inning by depositing Beckett’s 2-1 offering deep over the center-field wall for his fourth home run and third since being acquired from the New York Mets on April 18. Josh Harrison also had two hits for Pittsburgh, which has opened the four-game series with two wins after entering with a nine-game losing streak against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

The Dodgers broke through in the eighth against Mark Melancon as Chone Figgins hit a leadoff single and moved to second on Yasiel Puig’s groundout before scoring on Hanley Ramirez’s single. Melancon avoided further damage by retiring Matt Kemp on a comebacker and getting pinch hitter Adrian Gonzalez to ground out to shortstop.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Dodgers struck out 12 times and went 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position. … Walker is hitting .356 during his 11-game hitting streak. … Puig went 1-for-4 and has reached base in 31 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the majors.
