Phillies 7, Dodgers 3: Carlos Ruiz and Marlon Byrd each drove in two runs in the ninth inning as visiting Philadelphia pulled away from Los Angeles in the series finale.

Ruiz and Byrd had three hits apiece for Philadelphia, which took three of four from the Dodgers and won a four-game series for the third time in its last 16 attempts. Mike Adams (1-0) worked two innings and received the win despite allowing a game-tying solo homer by Adrian Gonzalez in the seventh.

Cody Asche began the ninth with a single up the middle off Brian Wilson (0-2) and Ben Revere delivered a one-out base hit before Ruiz scored both runners with a double into the left-field corner. After Chase Utley and Ryan Howard reached to load the bases, Jamey Wright replaced Wilson and allowed Byrd’s single into left field.

Juan Uribe gave the Dodgers the lead in the fourth with a two-run homer off Kyle Kendrick, who allowed two runs and 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings. The Phillies answered with a three-run rally in the fifth that was capped by Byrd’s two-run double past a diving Yasiel Puig in right field.

Ruiz went 7-for-14 with six extra-base hits and six RBIs in the series for the Phillies, who improved to 4-3 on their 10-game road trip. Gonzalez and Uribe had three hits apiece for Los Angeles, which lost for the third time in 15 games when scoring first.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Both managers challenged a call by the umpires, and both were denied. The Dodgers’ Don Mattingly argued that Ruiz blocked the plate on a play in the fifth inning, while Philadelphia’s Ryne Sandberg challenged a safe call at first base in the sixth. … Dodgers starter Dan Haren yielded three runs (one earned) and seven hits while striking out seven over six frames. … Byrd improved to 12-for-24 with two homers, four doubles and five RBIs in his career against Haren.
