Mariners 10, Astros 4: Robinson Cano hit a three-run homer and Taijuan Walker pitched six innings in his first big-league outing of the season as Seattle defeated host Houston in the opener of a three-game series.

Michael Saunders and Mike Zunino belted two-run shots and Brad Miller added a solo blast for the Mariners. James Jones had a career-best four hits, stole three bases and scored twice as Seattle won for the 11th time in 15 contests and moved a season-best seven games above. 500.

George Springer launched a two-run homer and Marwin Gonzalez added a solo shot for the Astros’ runs against Walker (1-0). The right-hander allowed three runs and five hits in six innings while counterpart Collin McHugh (4-7) yielded five runs and five hits in six frames.

Springer gave Houston a 2-0 lead with a mammoth first-inning homer, but Zunino tied the game in the top of the second. Gonzalez homered off the right-field foul pole in the bottom of the frame to give the Astros a 3-2 edge before Saunders hit a two-run blast into the upper deck in right in the fourth and Miller went deep later in the inning.

Cano’s opposite-field blast to left in the seventh created an 8-3 lead for Seattle, which added ninth-inning runs on Logan Morrison’s single and Zunino’s groundout. Houston second baseman Jose Altuve went 0-for-3 with one stolen base to end his streak of stealing multiple bases at four games, which matched the record previously shared by the New York Giants’ Bill Dahlen (1904) and Cleveland’s Ray Chapman (1917).

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Astros confirmed a report by the website deadspin.com that they were victims of a security breach in which internal business correspondences – including trade discussions – were leaked. … Mariners 3B Kyle Seager was hitless in four at-bats after being named American League Player of the Week earlier in the day due to going 14-for-24 with two homers and eight RBIs in a six-game stretch. … Houston CF Dexter Fowler (back) sat out his fourth consecutive game.
