Mariners 6, Astros 1: Felix Hernandez struck out nine in eight innings and Willie Bloomquist hit a rare homer and drove in three runs as host Seattle made it two straight over Houston.

Kyle Seager (two hits) also recorded three RBIs and Robinson Cano had two hits while reaching base for the 30th straight game as the Mariners won for the fourth time in their last five contests. Hernandez (6-1) allowed one run and five hits while striking out four consecutive batters at one point to win his third straight start.

Jose Altuve had three hits and drove in a run for Houston, which has lost four straight and was playing without rookie right fielder George Springer (right hip flexor strain) for the second straight game. Left-hander Rudy Owens yielded five runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings of his major-league debut.

Seattle took a 2-0 lead in the first when Cano singled with two outs, Justin Smoak (two hits) doubled and Seager drove them home with a single. Bloomquist hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth and belted his fifth career home run - and first since Aug. 10, 2011 - just inside the foul pole in left in the sixth after Mike Zunino (two hits) doubled.

Smoak singled with one out in the seventh and advanced to second on a balk before Seager's single made it 6-1. Hernandez, who retired eight in a row between Altuve's double in the fifth and single in the eighth, defeated the Astros for the first time in three starts this season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Owens, a 26-year-old Mesa, Ariz., native who was 48-39 with a 3.61 ERA in 134 career minor-league games, replaced RHP Brad Peacock, who was scratched because of right forearm soreness. ... Cano's streak is the longest active one in the majors. The Mariners' club record was set by Alvin Davis, when he reached base in his first 47 games of 1984 - a major-league record to begin a career. ... Altuve, who leads the major leagues with 66 hits, added to his team record by not committing an error for the 84th straight game.
