Mariners 3, Astros 1: Michael Saunders drove in a pair of runs with an infield hit in the seventh inning to snap a 1-1 tie as Seattle started its season-high 11-game homestand with a victory over Houston.

Dominic Leone (1-0) earned his first major-league victory with 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of fellow rookie Roenis Elias, Yoervis Medina struck out the side in the eighth and Fernando Rodney pitched a perfect ninth to notch his 12th save in 14 chances. Robinson Cano delivered a sacrifice fly for the Mariners.

Jose Altuve homered for the Astros, who lost their third straight and fell to 1-3 on their 10-game road trip. Jarred Cosart (3-4) had his two-start winning streak snapped as he surrendered three runs, five hits and four walks while striking out six.

Dustin Ackley and Stefen Romero led off the seventh with singles and Nick Franklin walked. After Mike Zunino struck out, Tony Sipp relieved Cosart and retired pinch hitter Cole Gillespie on a popout before Saunders grounded into the hole at first and beat Sipp to the bag as Ackley and Romero raced home.

Altuve, whose 12-game hitting streak came to an end Wednesday, hit the first pitch of the game over the wall in left. Seattle tied it in the bottom half, when James Jones led off with a walk, advanced to third on Saunders' single to right and scored on Cano's sacrifice fly to center.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Elias allowed one run, three hits and four walks while striking out six in 100 pitches over 5 1/3 innings, and retired 10 in a row at one point. ... Astros rookie OF George Springer did not play after suffering a right hip flexor strain Wednesday and remains day-to-day. ... Sipp retired the first 21 batters he faced since making his Houston debut May 2 versus Seattle before Saunders' winning hit.
