Astros 3, Yankees 1: Jarred Cosart tossed five scoreless innings and Dexter Fowler continued his hot start as Houston took its second straight over visiting New York to begin the season.

Fowler homered to lead off the bottom of the first and tripled and scored in the third for the Astros, who also received a solo blast from Matt Dominguez. Cosart (1-0) scattered four singles and struck out three to lower his career ERA in 11 starts to 1.80, and Josh Fields got the last three outs for his sixth career save.

Hiroki Kuroda (0-1) allowed two runs and just three hits while striking out five in losing for the first time in nine career starts versus Houston. Brett Gardner singled, walked and scored a run and Brian Roberts finished 3-for-4 for the Yankees, who have just two extra-base hits - both doubles - in the first two games of the season.

Fowler, who had a pair of doubles in Houston's 6-2 win Tuesday, deposited Kuroda's second pitch of the game over the wall in right-center field. He tripled to center with one out in the third and scored on an error by first baseman Mark Teixeira.

After Gardner reached and came in on a double play in the seventh to get New York on the board, Dominguez took David Phelps deep in the bottom half to make it 3-1. New York failed to score after getting two runners on in the fifth and sixth innings and Astros right-hander Matt Albers struck out Brian McCann, Teixeira and Alfonso Soriano in the eighth after Carlos Beltran led off with a double.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees SS Derek Jeter, who is retiring after the year, was honored in a pregame ceremony attended by former teammates Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte, both of whom also pitched for the Astros. ... Fowler became the first Astro to record multiple extra-base hits in his first two games with the team. ... Albers struck out four batters in 1 1/3 innings, part of a 10-strikeout effort by five Houston pitchers.
