Tigers 3, Astros 2: Miguel Cabrera belted a two-run homer - his second first-inning blast in as many nights - to spark host Detroit to its eighth consecutive victory.

Victor Martinez added a solo shot to extend his hitting streak to 10 games and help Rick Porcello (5-1) win his fourth straight start. Porcello gave up two runs and seven hits over 6 2/3 innings as the Tigers handed Houston its fifth defeat in a row.

Marwin González went 2-for-2 with an RBI single and Dexter Fowler knocked in a run for the Astros, who dropped to 1-9 at Detroit since the start of the 2013 season. Brad Peacock (0-3) was charged with three runs on four hits and four walks in 6 2/3 innings to remain winless.

Cabrera staked Porcello to an early lead with an opposite-field blast that just eluded the leap of right fielder George Springer, but Houston cut the deficit in half in the third when González led off with a double and came around on Dexter Fowler's groundout. Martinez answered with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth to restore the two-run edge.

The Astros had at least one runner aboard in the first six innings and chased Porcello with three straight two-out hits in the seventh, the last one an RBI single by Gonzalez to plate Marc Krauss and make it 3-2 before Joba Chamberlain came on and retired Jose Altuve to end the threat. Chamberlain struck out the side in the eighth before closer Joe Nathan worked around a two-out walk in the ninth for his seventh save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cabrera's homer was the 369th of his career, tying Todd Helton and Ralph Kiner for 74th place on the all-time list, and gave him 18 RBIs in his last 13 games. ... Astros SS Jonathan Villar, who entered Wednesday leading AL shortstops in homers (five) and extra-base hits (14), sat out with a jammed right thumb but entered as a pinch runner in the ninth. ... Tigers RF Torii Hunter went 0-for-4 and had his 13-game hitting streak snapped. ... The Astros recalled RHP Josh Zeid from their Triple-A affiliate at Oklahoma City and optioned RHP Josh Fields to the RedHawks.
