Reds 11, Pirates 4: Skip Schumaker and Billy Hamilton had three RBIs apiece as visiting Cincinnati used a seven-run third inning to top Pittsburgh for the second straight night.

Brandon Phillips and Zack Cozart each had two hits and an RBI for the Reds, who have won five straight meetings overall. Alfredo Simon (10-3) improved to 4-0 this month after giving up three runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Former Red Edinson Volquez (4-6) gave up eight runs in just 2 1/3 innings to suffer the loss for Pittsburgh, which has dropped three in a row following a four-game winning streak. Jose Tabata had a pair of RBIs and rookie Gregory Polanco finished with two hits and drove in a run.

Schumaker's sacrifice fly in the second made it 1-0 and nine straight Reds reached base with one out in the third. After Todd Frazier scored on a wild pitch and Phillips doubled in a run, Schumaker, Cozart and Simon registered RBI singles - the last coming in controversial fashion.

Hamilton's two-run base hit made it 8-0 and capped the highest-scoring inning of the season for Cincinnati, which added another run on Schumaker's single in the fourth. The game was delayed by rain in the seventh inning for more than an hour before Hamilton and Frazier capped the scoring for the Reds in the ninth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: With the bases loaded and one out in the third, Simon hit a dribbler back to the mound that was fielded by Pittsburgh RHP Stolmy Pimentel, who threw home for the forceout. After a review, it was ruled that Pirates C Russell Martin did not give Devin Mesoraco a sliding lane and credited Cincinnati with the run. Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle was ejected while arguing the call. ... Every Cincinnati starter had at least one hit by the end of the fourth inning. ...
