Brewers 2, Reds 0: Wily Peralta threw eight shutout innings and visiting Milwaukee avoided its first three-game losing streak of the season in the second game of the four-game series.

Peralta (4-1) allowed three hits, struck out seven and walked two before giving way to Francisco Rodriguez, who worked a perfect ninth inning for his 14th save of the season. Peralta even drove in both runs for the Brewers and Jonathan Lucroy finished with three hits.

Reds starter Mike Leake (2-3) went eight strong innings, allowing two runs and seven hits. The top three hitters in the Cincinnati order, Chris Heisey, Joey Votto and Todd Frazier, each had one hit.

Leake retired the first nine batters before Carlos Gomez reached on an infield single to start the fourth. He escaped that inning without any damage but gave up a leadoff single again in the fifth to Lyle Overbay, followed by a one-out walk to Caleb Gindl before Peralta laced his two-out, two-run double to deep right for a 2-0 lead.

Peralta allowed the first two runners to reach in the first but benefited from a double play. He gave up a leadoff ground-rule double to Votto to start the fourth, escaped a second-and-third jam to end the fifth and surrendered another ground-rule double to Frazier in the sixth without allowing a run.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Brewers placed RHP Jim Henderson on the 15-day DL with inflammation in his throwing shoulder and recalled Gindl, who started in right field and went 1-for-3 with a walk. Gindl had three hits against the Reds last season, all home runs … Gomez has saved six balls from going over the home-run fence since the start of the 2012 season, four more than the next closest player. … Peralta did not allow a home run for the first time this season.
