Indians 12, Rangers 2: David Murphy collected four hits and two RBIs while All-Star Michael Brantley recorded three and two, respectively, as host Cleveland defeated Texas for the ninth time in 10 meetings.

Mike Aviles drove in three runs and scored twice for the Indians, who posted just their fourth win in 12 contests to remain within 6 1/2 games of first-place Detroit in the American League Central. Lonnie Chisenhall homered to lead off the sixth while Carlos Santana and Yan Gomes each had an RBI single to pace Cleveland's 16-hit attack.

Staked to the offensive outburst, Danny Salazar (4-4) won his third straight start since being recalled from Triple-A Columbus on July 22. The 24-year-old Dominican allowed Robinson Chirinos to score an unearned run on a groundout and scattered four hits over six innings en route to the convincing victory.

After reaching base four times in Thursday's 6-5 loss to Seattle, Brantley deposited a first-pitch sinker from Jerome Williams (2-5) into right-center field for an RBI double to open the scoring. Santana's RBI single doubled the advantage in the third before Brantley crossed home plate on a double play.

Aviles had a two-out RBI single to right field in the fourth inning and Brantley followed with a run-scoring base hit of his own to give Cleveland a 5-0 lead. The Indians put away the game with a six-run fifth as Gomes slapped an RBI single and scored on a wild pitch, Murphy hit a two-run double down the right-field line and Aviles added a two-run base hit past a drawn-in infield.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Brantley has recorded four multi-hit performances in his last six games. ... Williams permitted 10 runs on 13 hits in four-plus innings to take the loss for Texas, which opened its nine-game road trip by falling for the 17th time in its last 21 contests away from home. ... The Indians have outscored the Rangers 30-10 en route to winning the last four meetings at home dating to last season.
