Yankees 5, Indians 3: Brian McCann went 3-for-5 and scored twice and Shane Greene pitched six solid innings in his first major-league start as New York defeated host Cleveland in the opener of a four-game set.

Brett Gardner and Ichiro Suzuki each had three hits and an RBI for the Yankees. Brian Roberts added two hits and drove in one as New York won for the fourth time in five games.

Greene (1-0) didn’t allow a hit over the first 4 2/3 innings and ended up giving up two runs and four hits over six innings in his second big-league appearance. Dellin Betances recorded the final six outs to earn his first major-league save.

McCann and Roberts delivered back-to-back doubles for the first of a three-run second-inning uprising against Indians starter Justin Masterson (4-6), who was charged with five runs and six hits in two-plus innings. Gardner had a run-scoring single and Derek Jeter drew a bases-loaded walk for the other tallies in the inning.

Suzuki’s infield single and Francisco Cervelli’s fielder’s choice plated runs in the third to make it 5-0 before Cleveland got on the board on Nick Swisher’s two-out homer in the fifth – the first hit against Greene. Asdrubal Cabrera’s RBI single in the sixth pulled the Indians within 5-2 and Yan Gomes smacked a leadoff homer in the eighth against David Huff and Betances worked around Michael Brantley’s lead single in the ninth.
