Felix Hernandez pitched eight shutout innings and Robinson Cano hit a two-run homer as Seattle defeated visiting Cleveland.

Hernandez (10-2) allowed only a fifth-inning single to Lonnie Chisenhall in his latest gem as the Mariners won for the seventh time in nine games. He struck out nine and issued three walks before departing after 107 pitches, and Fernando Rodney sailed through the ninth for his 23th save to complete the tidy two-hour, 17-minute contest.

Cleveland rookie T.J. House (0-2) pitched well in his sixth major-league start with his lone mistake being the homer hit by Cano. The 24-year-old left-hander gave up two runs and seven hits in six innings while filling in for Justin Masterson (knee).

The game was scoreless through 5 1/2 innings before Michael Saunders reached on an infield single and continued all the way to third due to House’s errant throw. Cano moved ahead 2-0 in the count before slamming his fifth homer of the season to put the Mariners ahead.

Mike Zunino added a run-scoring single in the eighth to make it a three-run margin. Hernandez was pulled after eight and remains without a complete-game effort since tossing a five-hit shutout against Minnesota on Aug. 27, 2012.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hernandez lowered his ERA to 2.10 and extended his franchise record to nine consecutive outings of pitching at least seven innings and allowing two or fewer runs … House was recalled from Triple-A Columbus earlier Sunday and the Indians optioned LHP Nick Hagadone to the same club. … Seattle LHP Taijuan Walker will be recalled Monday to make his first start of the season when the Mariners open a three-game set at Houston, while Cleveland begins a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday.
