Cubs 4, Brewers 2: Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo hit back-to-back home runs and Tsuyoshi Wada took a shutout into the seventh inning as host Chicago beat first-place Milwaukee for the second straight night.
Starlin Castro and Chris Coghlan each went 3-for-4 for the Cubs, who took a 2-1 lead in the four-game series. Wada (2-1) allowed two runs and five hits over 6 2/3 innings for Chicago's seventh straight quality start.
Rickie Weeks and Martin Maldonado belted back-to-back homers in the seventh to account for all the scoring by Milwaukee, which maintained its 1 1/2-game lead over Pittsburgh in the National League Central. Kyle Lohse (11-7) allowed four runs and seven hits in three innings before leaving with a right ankle injury suffered during his at-bat in the third.
The Cubs jumped on Lohse for two runs in the first, as Coghlan led off with a double and Baez followed with a single ahead of Rizzo's sacrifice fly and Castro's RBI single. Baez roped a 1-1 slider onto Waveland Avenue in the third and Rizzo drove the next pitch out to right for his 27th blast of the season.
Weeks and Maldonado went back-to-back to nearly the same spot in left-center with two outs in the seventh to chase Wada. The Brewers wasted a two-out triple by Jonathan Lucroy in the eighth and Hector Rondon pitched a perfect ninth for his 16th save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Rizzo's homer was his 11th of the season on the first pitch of an at-bat, the most in the majors. … Castro extended his hitting streak to 12 games, his longest run of the season and two games shy of his career best. … Brewers starting pitchers have failed to record a quality start only four times in the last 22 contests.
