Cubs 5, Marlins 4 (13): Starlin Castro blasted a three-run homer among his three hits and pitcher Travis Wood smacked a go-ahead RBI double as a pinch hitter in the 13th as visiting Chicago outlasted Miami in the opener of a three-game series.

Wood, who tossed a shutout at Philadelphia on Sunday, ripped a double inside the bag at third against Jacob Turner (2-5), scoring Junior Lake from first with the winning run. Carlos Villanueva (3-5) worked two hitless innings for the victory and James Russell picked up his first save with a perfect frame as seven Chicago relievers combined for seven scoreless innings.

Giancarlo Stanton belted a two-run homer among his two hits and Jake Marisnick, Casey McGehee and Marcell Ozuna also added two apiece for the Marlins, who have played extra innings in three of their past four games. Luis Valbuena and John Baker each had two hits for the Cubs.

Stanton blasted his National League-leading 19th homer in the first inning and McGehee added an RBI single in the third to stake Tom Koehler to a 3-0 lead. The Cubs had only one hit against the right-hander through five innings, but three singles loaded the bases in the sixth ahead of Anthony Rizzo's run-scoring groundout and Castro's go-ahead blast into the Clevelander restaurant in left.

The Marlins tied when Ozuna led off the sixth with a triple to the gap in right-center and scored on Adeiny Hechavarria's sacrifice fly, which center fielder Ryan Sweeney hauled in with an over-the-shoulder basket catch at the warning track. Miami loaded the bases with one out in the seventh but couldn't push across the go-ahead run, and it also left two on in the 10th and 11th, finishing 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and stranding 12 men.

GAME NOTEBOOK: McGehee's 11-game hitting streak matches his career-high set in 2010 and matched in 2011. … Castro needed only 68 games this season to match last year's total of 10 home runs in 161 games. … Cubs starter Jason Hammel struck out nine and allowed four runs over six innings while Koehler gave up four runs and five hits over six frames.
