Marlins 4, Cubs 3: Giancarlo Stanton scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning on a wild pitch as visiting Miami rallied against sloppy Chicago to snap the Cubs' five-game winning streak.
The Cubs lost leads of 2-0 and 3-2 in the late innings with some ugly play, ending their homestand with a 5-1 record. Jacob Realmuto, Adeiny Hechavarria and Garrett Jones had RBIs for the Marlins, who won for the eighth time in their last 12 road games.
Jake Arrieta struck out seven in six scoreless innings and Nate Schierholtz ripped a two-run triple for Chicago, which fell shy of its first six-game winning streak since 2011. Miami starter Henderson Alvarez allowed two runs - one earned - in 5 1/3 innings before leaving with a hip injury while Mike Dunn (5-3) got the win and Steve Cishek worked the ninth for his 14th save.
Alvarez was hurt covering first base on an infield hit one out into the sixth and Schierholtz greeted Dan Jennings with the triple to end Alvarez's scoreless streak at 26 innings and put Chicago up 2-0. Realmuto and Hechavarria had RBI singles off Brian Schlitter in the seventh to tie it, but the Cubs regained the lead on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom half of the frame.
A walk, a hit batter and a single loaded the bases for the Marlins against Pedro Strop (0-3) in the eighth before Jones' sacrifice fly and a throwing error on the play by left fielder Chris Coghlan allowed Stanton to move to third and later scamper in with the go-ahead run on Strop's wild pitch. Coghlan was stranded at second in the bottom half and Cishek struck out Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro to end it.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Alvarez's scoreless streak was the third-longest in team history, three shy of Javier Vazquez's franchise mark. ... The Cubs were 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 men. ... Miami has Monday off before visiting Texas for two games. Chicago opens a four-game series at Pittsburgh on Monday.
