Cubs 3, Brewers 0: Chicago got to former Cubs pitcher Matt Garza early and Edwin Jackson and two relievers made the lead stand up to even the series with visiting Milwaukee at a game apiece.

Jackson (3-3) racked up a season-high 11 strikeouts and limited the Brewers to four hits over seven scoreless innings and Neil Ramirez struck out two in the eighth to get the ball to Hector Rondon, who worked a perfect ninth for his fourth save. Starlin Castro doubled home a run and scored on Welington Castillo's two-run double in the first inning as Chicago snapped a three-game skid.

Garza (2-4), who beat his former team last month in Milwaukee, struck out seven and allowed three runs on four hits over seven frames. Jonathan Lucroy had a pair of hits for the Brewers, who lost for only the second time in seven games.

The Cubs managed only four hits, but three of them came in the first-inning outburst. Emilio Bonifacio led off with a bunt single and scored on Castro's two-out double off the ivy in right-center before Castillo followed a walk to Nate Schierholtz with a double into the left-field corner to plate two more.

Garza sat down 12 straight before Anthony Rizzo's leadoff single in the sixth and retired six in a row after that before exiting. The Brewers did not have an extra-base hit, though, and had runners in scoring position only twice after the first inning.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jackson has hit double digits in strikeouts seven times in his career. … The Cubs, who entered the day batting .183 with runners in scoring position and two outs, were 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position and both hits came with two outs. … Brewers CF Carlos Gomez (lower back tightness) was a late scratch and was replaced in center by Logan Schafer and in the leadoff spot by Elian Herrera.
