Cubs 6, Cardinals 3 (11): Welington Castillo belted a three-run homer with two outs in the top of the 11th inning as Chicago prevailed after blowing a lead in the ninth.

Castillo drilled a 1-1 pitch well into the left-center seats off Trevor Rosenthal (0-1), who batted with two runners aboard and struck out to end the 10th. Justin Grimm (1-0) survived a pair of leadoff walks in the 10th to earn the victory while Hector Rondon worked around a two-out walk in the 11th to record his first career save.

Nate Schierholtz led off the 11th with a double among his four hits and drove in a run, while Ryan Sweeney added two hits and an RBI for Chicago. Matt Carpenter delivered the game-tying sacrifice fly in the ninth, Yadier Molina recorded two hits and his team-leading eighth RBI, and Matt Adams added two hits for St. Louis.

Jose Veras entered in the ninth trying to earn his first save in a Cubs uniform, but hit two batters, walked a pair and allowed a single as St. Louis tied the game 3-3. Molina, who led off with a single, scored on a passed ball and three batters later, Carpenter delivered a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded.

The Cubs took a 3-1 lead in the eighth when pinch hitter Justin Ruggiano led off with a single and moved to second on Emilio Bonifacio's sacrifice. Pinch hitter Mike Olt singled before Ruggiano scored on Anthony Rizzo's sacrifice fly, and Schierholtz's bloop single to left got past a diving Matt Holliday, allowing Olt to score from first.
