Royals 6, White Sox 3: Salvador Perez hit a three-run homer and Eric Hosmer drilled a two-run blast as visiting Kansas City defeated Chicago to stretch its winning streak to seven games.
James Shields (8-3) gave up three runs and 10 hits in six innings to win his fifth consecutive decision. American League saves leader Greg Holland allowed two men to reach in the ninth before retiring Dayan Viciedo on a grounder for his 20th save in 21 opportunities.
Jarrod Dyson added an RBI single for Kansas City, which has outscored the opposition 45-17 during its winning streak. Chicago’s Adam Eaton had three hits and Alejandro De Aza smacked a two-run double but couldn’t prevent the White Sox from dropping their fourth straight game.
Omar Infante stroked a one-out single in the first before Hosmer hit a blast over the center-field fence off Andre Rienzo (4-4). The White Sox got on the board in the bottom of the inning when Eaton tripled and scored when Shields was called for a balk after picking him off third.
Rienzo hit Billy Butler with a pitch and walked Alex Gordon in the third before Perez followed with his homer to left. Dyson’s single made it 6-1 in the fourth and De Aza trimmed two runs off Chicago’s deficit with the two-bagger in the bottom of the inning.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Kansas City SS Alcides Escobar went 0-for-3 with a walk as his 12-game hitting streak reached an end. … Rienzo allowed six runs, six hits and four walks in six innings while losing his fourth straight start. … Royals manager Ned Yost was ejected for protesting the balk call on Shields.
