Marlins 3, Braves 1 (10): Garrett Jones’ bases-loaded single drove in two runs in 10th inning as visiting Miami captured the opener of a four-game series.

Jones lined a pitch from Shae Simmons (1-2) up the middle to score Christian Yelich and Giancarlo Stanton as the Marlins won their second consecutive contest following a six-game losing streak. Jarrod Saltalamacchia homered for the Marlins, Bryan Morris (7-0) escaped a ninth-inning jam to get the win and Steve Cishek earned his 22nd save.

Atlanta starter Julio Teheran tied a career high with 11 strikeouts, allowing one run on four hits with one walk in seven innings. Justin Upton and Jason Heyward finished with two hits each for the Braves, who failed to capitalize on having the winning run at second in the bottom of the ninth.

Upton scored on Chris Johnson’s groundout in the second to put the Braves ahead 1-0, and Teheran no-hit the Marlins for the first 4 2/3 innings until Saltalamacchia crushed a solo homer deep into the right-field seats. Miami loaded the bases with no outs against Craig Kimbrel in the ninth, but the Atlanta closer struck out Saltalamacchia and Adeiny Hechavarria, and induced pinch-hitter Donovan Solano to line out to second to escape.

Andrelton Simmons doubled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth off Morris, who walked pinch-hitter Ryan Doumit before getting B.J. Upton to fly out to right and send the contest to extra innings. Yelich singled to left leading off the 10th, and after a sacrifice bunt and back-to-back walks to Stanton and Casey McGehee, Jones delivered his second hit of the game to put Miami ahead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Andrelton Simmons made a tremendous play in the fourth, twisting his body to snare 2B Jordany Valdespin’s grounder up the middle and tag second base with his glove to force Yelich. … Stanton finished 0-for-4, dropping his average to .198 in 28 career games at Turner Field. … Atlanta activated C Evan Gattis from the disabled list before the game and optioned C Christian Bethancourt to Triple-A Gwinnett; Gattis went 1-for-3 with a walk.
