Braves 6, Nationals 4 (13): Evan Gattis singled home the go-ahead run in the 13th as visiting Atlanta survived blowing a two-run ninth-inning lead to move past Washington and into first place in the National League East.

Gattis, who finished 2-for-6 to extend his hitting streak to 19 games, drove home B.J. Upton - who drew a leadoff walk - with a base hit off Jerry Blevins (2-3). Ryan Buchter (1-0) pitched a scoreless 12th to get the victory in his major-league debut and Jordan Walden notched his second save as the Braves improved to 7-1 this season against their chief division rival.

Anthony Rendon hit a game-tying, two-run homer off Atlanta closer Craig Kimbrel with two outs in the bottom of the ninth that originally was ruled a double, but video review showed the ball clearly landed beyond the center-field fence. Ian Desmond also homered for the Nationals, who have lost six of their last eight to fall one-half game behind Atlanta.

Freddie Freeman, who finished with three hits and three runs scored, belted a solo homer in the first, but Desmond tied the game with a blast to left with two outs in the second. The Braves took the lead on Andrelton Simmons’ RBI single in the fourth, and Jason Heyward’s two-run double to right in the fifth made it 4-1.

Washington pulled within 4-2 when Denard Span tripled home Danny Espinosa with two outs in the seventh, and Kimbrel served up Rendon’s drive over the center-field wall on a 2-1 pitch in the ninth. Gattis steered a 0-1 offering into left field in the 13th to put the Braves ahead to stay, and Espinosa bobbled Simmons' potential double-play ball to allow Freeman to score an insurance run.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Atlanta LHP Mike Minor held the Nationals to two runs on seven hits with 11 strikeouts in seven innings, while Washington RHP Stephen Strasburg gave up four runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts in six frames. … Washington RF Jayson Werth struck out four times and is 1-for-8 with seven strikeouts in the first two games of the series. … The Braves lost in 13 innings on both Saturday and Monday.
