Rockies 8, Braves 2: Tyler Matzek allowed five hits over seven-plus innings in his major-league debut as Colorado blanked visiting Atlanta.

Matzek (1-0) struck out seven and did not walk a batter while allowing two runs to prop up a Rockies pitching staff that surrendered 13 runs in Tuesday's loss. Corey Dickerson drove in three runs, Justin Morneau recorded his 900th career RBI and Drew Stubbs plated two runs and scored two others to lead Colorado's offense.

Julio Teheran (6-4) was knocked around for a season-high seven runs on 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings, bloating his ERA from a league-best 1.89 to 2.41. Andrelton Simmons broke up Matzek’s shutout bid in the eighth with an RBI single and Chris Johnson recorded two hits for the Braves.

The Rockies jumped on Teheran in the first inning, when Stubbs came up with two on and two out and sent a double to right-center to plate a run. Dickerson followed and found the gap in left-center for a two-run triple and a quick 3-0 advantage.

Stubbs added a sacrifice fly in the third, Troy Tulowitzki singled in a run in the fifth and Stubbs and Dickerson delivered back-to-back doubles to score another run in the sixth before a two-run seventh made it 8-0. Matzek surrendered two hits through the first seven innings but yielded three straight singles to start the eighth and was replaced by Franklin Morales, who allowed one inherited runner to score.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Braves LF Justin Upton was back in the lineup after leaving Tuesday’s game in the first inning and recorded Atlanta’s first hit with a single in the fifth. … Matzek added his first major-league hit with an infield single in the seventh and scored on Tulowitzki’s single to left. … Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez was named to Cardinals manager Mike Matheny’s National League staff for the All-Star Game.
