Mariners 7, Braves 5: John Buck hit a tie-breaking two-run homer to cap a big rally for visiting Seattle, which overcame an early four-run deficit to win the opener of a two-game set.

Buck finished with three hits and three runs scored, and Stefen Romero delivered a key three-run pinch-hit homer for the Mariners, who trailed 4-0 after an inning and 5-2 after two frames. Dominic Leone (2-0) struck out four in two innings of relief and Fernando Rodney earned his 15th save, delivering Seattle its fourth consecutive victory.

Evan Gattis and B.J. Upton homered and finished with two hits apiece for Atlanta, which saw its three-game winning streak snapped. Starter Gavin Floyd could not hold the early advantage and Alex Wood (5-6) surrendered Buck’s homer in the seventh, giving up two runs on two hits in two innings.

Buck led off the fourth with a single and after Brad Miller walked, Romero pinch hit for Seattle starter Erasmo Ramirez and lined Floyd’s 1-0 pitch into the left-center field seats, his third homer of the year to make it 5-5. Dustin Ackley reached on an infield single with two outs in the seventh and Buck hammered Wood’s 2-1 offering into the right-center field seats, his first homer of the season giving the Mariners a 7-5 advantage.

Atlanta scored four times in the first, with Gattis lining his 12th homer of the season – a three-run shot – over the right-field fence off Ramirez. The Mariners plated a pair of unearned runs off Floyd in the second on RBI singles by Miller and James Jones, but Upton’s fifth homer of the season with two outs in the second made it 5-2.
