Braves 9, Brewers 3: Jason Heyward and Andrelton Simmons collected three hits apiece and host Atlanta blasted three homers in winning the opener of the four-game series.

Freddie Freeman, pinch hitter Ryan Doumit and Justin Upton went deep as the Braves finished with a season-high 15 hits. Mike Minor (2-2) won his second consecutive decision, holding the Brewers to two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.

Milwaukee starter Wily Peralta (4-3) allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits with five strikeouts over five frames. Khris Davis and Ryan Braun homered while Jonathan Lucroy added three hits for the Brewers, who lost for the fourth time in six games.

Atlanta jumped on the Brewers with single runs in the first three innings. Heyward scored on catcher Martin Maldonado's throwing error in the first, Ramiro Pena singled home B.J. Upton in the second and Freeman hit his ninth homer of the season in the third – a solo shot just over Davis’ glove at the top of the left-field wall.

The Brewers pulled within 3-2 in the fifth as Davis crushed his fifth homer of the season, a two-run blast deep into the seats in left-center, but Evan Gattis lifted a sacrifice fly in the sixth to restore the two-run lead. Braun lined his seventh homer of the season in the eighth to bring Milwaukee back within a run, but the Braves blew it open with a five-run eighth, highlighted by Doumit's solo blast - his 100th career homer - and Justin Upton’s two-run shot two batters later.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Braun’s homer gave him 700 career RBIs. … Minor walked Carlos Gomez to start the game, then retired the next 11 straight before Lucroy singled with two outs in the fourth. … Milwaukee LHP Wei-Chung Wang allowed five runs on four hits with two walks in two-thirds of an inning before 1B Lyle Overbay retired Doumit for the final out of the eighth.
