Braves 3, Cubs 2 (10): Freddie Freeman lined the game-winning single in the 10th as host Atlanta won the opener of a three-game series.

Freeman and Chris Johnson finished with three hits apiece for the Braves, who won for just the second time in 10 games despite Craig Kimbrel blowing a save in the ninth. Alex Wood (3-5), who was moved to the bullpen from the starting rotation earlier in the day, earned the victory with a scoreless 10th after Julio Teheran fired eight dominant innings of one-run, one-hit ball.

Wesley Wright (0-1) walked Jason Heyward to lead off the 10th before surrendering Freeman’s game-winning hit. Mike Olt hit a solo homer for Chicago, his third blast in three days, and Ryan Kalish singled home Chris Coghlan in the ninth to tie the contest.

Wright tried to pick off Heyward in the 10th, but Heyward outraced the throw to second from first baseman Anthony Rizzo. Wright intentionally walked Justin Upton to set up a lefty-on-lefty matchup, but Freeman lined the first pitch to center for his eighth career walk-off hit.

Olt led off the third with his seventh homer, a blast to left-center to put Chicago ahead 1-0, but the Braves took the lead in the home half of the frame on Johnson’s two-run single to left, plating Freeman and Evan Gattis. Teheran retired the next 17 hitters after Olt’s homer, but Kimbrel started the ninth by giving up a single to Coghlan and two hitters later surrendered Kalish’s RBI single.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Teheran struck out nine and walked two while Chicago RHP Jason Hammel surrendered two runs on seven hits and five strikeouts in seven innings. … Rain delayed the start of the game by 18 minutes. … Olt leads all NL rookies with seven homers and 17 RBIs.
