Cardinals 7, Braves 1: Adam Wainwright became the National League’s first six-game winner and added two hits as visiting St. Louis won the rubber game of a three-game set.

Wainwright (6-2) scattered six hits in allowing one run with one walk and six strikeouts over eight innings, and added a double and a single to aid the St. Louis offense. Matt Holliday finished with three hits and three RBIs, and Matt Carpenter and Peter Bourjos added three hits apiece.

Mike Minor (0-1) allowed six runs on a career high-tying 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings for the Braves, who lost for the eighth time in nine games. Justin Upton and Freddie Freeman each finished with two doubles.

Bourjos hit his first homer of the season, a solo shot with two outs in the second, and Wainwright doubled and scored on Yadier Molina’s double-play grounder in the third to put the Cardinals ahead 2-0. Atlanta cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third when Freeman drove home Upton on a single to right.

St. Louis broke it open with a three-run fourth, with Carpenter’s single scoring Bourjos and Holliday’s single plating Wainwright and Carpenter. Bourjos singled home Jhonny Peralta in the fifth to push the Cardinals’ advantage to 6-1, and Holliday drove in his third run with a ninth-inning single.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Wainwright lowered his ERA to 2.02, winning for the fifth time in his past six starts, and raised his batting average to .400. … The Braves have scored 16 runs in their last nine games. … Bourjos finished the series 5-for-8 after going hitless in his previous 16 at-bats.
