Rays 1, Red Sox 0: Rookie Cole Figueroa delivered a pinch-hit, walk-off double as Tampa Bay handed visiting Boston its eighth straight loss.

Desmond Jennings drew a walk off Andrew Miller (1-3) before the Red Sox went to the bullpen for right-hander Burke Badenhop. Jennings stole second and Figueroa flared a 1-2 sinker into the gap in right-center to plate the game’s lone run.

John Lackey started for Boston and allowed five hits while striking out three in seven-plus scoreless innings. Chris Archer matched Lackey through six frames, scattering four hits and walking four while striking out 11.

Evan Longoria recorded three of the Rays’ six hits but Tampa Bay stranded runners at third base in three different innings against Lackey. Juan Carlos Oviedo (1-0) worked out of a jam in the top of the ninth before the Rays put something together against the Red Sox bullpen.

Brock Holt doubled for the lone extra-base hit for Boston, which has dropped eight in a row for the first time since the final eight games of the 2012 campaign. Tampa Bay has won back-to-back games after dropping four straight.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Red Sox sent SS Stephen Drew to Single-A Greenville to begin getting ready for a return to the major leagues in 7-to-10 days. … Boston used its 38th different batting order in 47 games, restoring the 3-4-5 combination of Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz and Mike Napoli that worked for most of the 2013 season. … Red Sox RF Shane Victorino left the game in the ninth inning with a right hamstring strain after running out a bunt and was replaced by Jonny Gomes. He will undergo further examination Saturday.
