Tigers 6, Red Sox 1: Miguel Cabrera homered and drove in two in support of eight strong innings from Rick Porcello as Detroit knocked off host Boston.

Alex Avila, Rajai Davis and Ian Kinsler each drove in a run and scored and Torii Hunter added an RBI for the Tigers, who have won five straight. Porcello (7-1) allowed one run and six hits while striking out four as to join Toronto’s Mark Buehrle and the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ Zack Greinke as the only seven-game winners in the majors.

John Lackey (5-3) was knocked around for six runs - five earned - and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings as the Red Sox fell for the fourth time in five games. Xander Bogaerts homered and Mike Napoli had three hits to highlight the Boston offense.

Detroit scratched across a run on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice in the second inning before Cabrera made it 2-0 with an opposite-field blast to right in the third. Kinsler and Hunter put up back-to-back doubles to score another run in the fifth and Hunter came in on Cabrera’s single to center to make it 4-0.

The Red Sox got a run back on Bogaerts’ solo shot into the "Green Monster” seats in left field, but two more doubles chased Lackey in the sixth and Kinsler followed an error with a sacrifice fly to make it a five-run lead. Boston managed one hit in the final four innings.
