Orioles 9, Twins 1: Chris Davis hit a grand slam and Delmon Young added a two-run shot as Baltimore routed visiting Minnesota in the opener of a four-game series.
Davis and Adam Jones each scored twice for the Orioles, who have won four of their last five games. The victory allowed Baltimore to maintain its seven-game lead in the American League East over the New York Yankees.
Miguel Gonzalez (7-7) allowed one run and four hits and struck out six in seven innings. Twins starter Trevor May (0-4) struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings but gave up eight runs and six hits.
May tossed three scoreless innings before allowing a single and hitting two batters to load the bases in the fourth. J.J. Hardy walked to force in a run and Davis followed with his blast over the right-field fence to make it 5-0.
Jones singled in a run in the fifth and Young smacked a two-run homer to left later in the inning. Jonathan Schoop’s RBI double in the sixth made it 9-0 before Trevor Plouffe got Minnesota on the board with a homer in the seventh.
