Orioles 5, Yankees 3: Jonathan Schoop drilled a game-tying home run in the eighth inning and Adam Jones followed with the go-ahead three-run shot as host Baltimore swept a rain-shortened two-game series.

After Tuesday's contest was postponed, it appeared as if the Yankees would earn a split of the series before Schoop launched an 0-1 offering from Dellin Betances just over the left field wall. Shawn Kelley (2-4) then came on and issued a two-out single to Nick Markakis and a walk to Chris Davis before Jones sent the first pitch he saw into the Baltimore bullpen in left-center.

Schoop's home run spoiled a potential win for Michael Pineda, who returned to the Yankees for the first time in more than three months due to a shoulder/back injury. The 25-year-old Dominican allowed one run and two hits in five innings, totaling four strikeouts without a walk.

Francisco Cervelli's second homer of the season staked Pineda to a 2-0 lead in the third inning before Nelson Cruz doubled to lead off the fifth and came home on Ryan Flaherty's sacrifice fly, making it 2-1. New York's fourth straight defeat dropped it 3 1/2 games off the pace in the American League wild card race, while the Orioles' cushion in the AL East now sits at seven games.

Baltimore starter Chris Tillman worked seven innings and yielded two runs and five hits without a walk. Darren O'Day (4-1) logged the eighth in advance of the decisive rally and Zach Britton gave up a run in the ninth before wrapping up his 25th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Orioles placed 3B Manny Machado on the 15-day disabled list prior to Wednesday's game. Machado sprained his right knee in Monday's series opener, but it remains unclear if he'll be able to return in two weeks. ... Yankees manager Joe Girardi was ejected in the seventh inning for arguing a batter's interference call after Stephen Drew was ruled out for running inside the baseline following a dribbler up the first-base line. ... Baltimore leads the major leagues with 152 homers and is 58-25 when hitting at least one home run.
