Rays 5, Orioles 4: Pinch hitter Jerry Sands belted a go-ahead two-run homer with two outs in the eighth inning as Tampa Bay defeated visiting Baltimore for the first time in six tries this season.

Evan Longoria walked to lead off the eighth and Darren O’Day (2-1) retired the next two batters before Sands launched a 2-0 pitch from Brian Matusz just inside the left-field foul pole. Ryan Hanigan and Yunel Escobar also homered while Logan Forsythe and Desmond Jennings added two hits apiece for the Rays, who have won four of their last five.

Jake McGee (3-0) got the final two outs in the eighth for the victory and Juan Carlos Oviedo allowed a homer by pinch hitter Delmon Young in the ninth before notching his first save since 2011. Adam Jones belted a two-run shot while J.J. Hardy and Nick Markakis each collected a pair of hits for the Orioles.

Escobar hit his fourth homer of the season over the left-field wall with one out in the first inning to open the scoring for the Rays. James Loney doubled to lead off the fourth, moved to third on a sacrifice and trotted home when Hanigan lined a 3-2 curveball into the left-field seats with two outs for a 3-0 lead.

Markakis started the sixth inning with a double and, one out later, Jones hammered a high fastball over the left-field fence for his sixth blast this month. Baltimore tied the game at 3-3 in the eighth on an infield single by Nelson Cruz before McGee retired the next two batters.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Orioles announced Monday that C Matt Wieters will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Tuesday. Wieters was batting .308 with 18 RBIs in 26 games. … Tampa Bay starter Jake Odorizzi allowed two runs on three hits over 5 1/3 innings, extending his winless streak to six starts, and Baltimore’s Wei-Yin Chen surrendered three runs on six hits in 6 2/3 frames. … Markakis’ two hits moved him past Ken Singleton (1,455) for sixth on the club’s all-time list with 1,456.
