Diamondbacks 5, Padres 1: Josh Collmenter allowed four hits in 8 1/3 innings as Arizona defeated visiting San Diego in the opener of a three-game series.

Miguel Montero hit a two-run homer for the Diamondbacks, who halted a six-game losing streak. Mark Trumbo and Jake Lamb also drove runs for Arizona, which improved to 6-14 in August.

Collmenter (9-7) tied a career high with eight strikeouts, didn’t walk anyone and retired 15 straight batters until allowing a leadoff single in the ninth to Alexi Amarista. He was pulled in favor of Matt Stites after Yangervis Solarte blooped a one-out single to center and the shutout was lost later in the inning when Montero was charged with a passed ball.

David Peralta tripled with two outs in the first and scored when Trumbo legged out an infield hit to deep shortstop. Montero followed with his blast off Odrisamer Despaigne (3-5), who allowed four runs (three earned) and five hits in five innings.

Lamb reached on an infield single in the second and two infield outs moved him to third and he scored when Padres second baseman Jedd Gyorko booted Ender Inciarte’s grounder. Lamb drove in Arizona’s final run with a fielder’s choice in the eighth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Collmenter has one career shutout, a three-hitter against Cincinnati on May 29. … Amarista and Solarte each had two hits against Collmenter. … Arizona OF A.J. Pollock (hand) is slated to restart his rehab assignment at Triple-A Reno on Saturday. A previous rehab stint was halted after six games.
