Angels 9, Red Sox 5 (Game 1): Mike Trout had three hits and an RBI and Mark Trumbo drove in a pair as visiting Los Angeles took the opener of a doubleheader from Boston.

Erick Aybar added two hits and two RBIs and Albert Pujols recorded a sacrifice fly for the Angels, who have taken nine straight from the Red Sox, including six in a row at Fenway Park. Tommy Hanson (3-2) only lasted five innings but limited the damage to two runs and seven hits to pick up the win.

Mike Carp homered and Stephen Drew highlighted a three-run rally in the ninth with a two-run double before Boston’s uprising fell short. Felix Doubront (4-3) was reached for three runs on six hits in six innings to absorb the loss.

Aybar got Los Angeles started with an RBI single in the second and Trout narrowly missed a home run with a double high off the Green Monster leading off the third. Trout stole third and scored on Pujols' sacrifice fly before Trumbo’s groundout pushed home another run to make it 3-0.

The Red Sox put runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings but did not get on the board until Carp’s leadoff homer to right and Daniel Nava’s RBI single in the fourth. Franklin Morales came on in relief of Doubront in the seventh and could not find his command, yielding an RBI double to Trumbo before walking in two runs with the bases loaded as the Angels put it away.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Boston is expected to activate RF Shane Victorino (hamstring) from the 15-day DL for the second game of the doubleheader. … Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia and 3B Jose Iglesias each extended their respective hitting streaks to 11 games. … The Angels recalled OF Brad Hawpe from Triple-A Salt Lake. Hawpe, 33, has been out of the majors since 2011 while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
