Athletics 4, Rangers 2:
Coco Crisp hit a tiebreaking two-run homer and Yoenis Cespedes added a solo blast as host Oakland moved into a tie with Texas atop the American League West.

Dan Straily (8-7) allowed two runs on three hits in five innings to pick up his second consecutive win for the Athletics, who have won four straight. Oakland and the Rangers are also tied for the top wild-card spot in the AL.

David Murphy hit a two-run homer for Texas, which has dropped three of four and led the division by as many as 3 1/2 games Aug. 23. Derek Holland (9-7) walked five and allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in 4 2/3 innings to run his winless streak at five straight starts.

The Athletics jumped on top with two runs in the second, starting when Cespedes belted a 2-2 fastball out to left-center. Texas came back to tie it on Murphy’s shot to center in the fifth.

Michael Choice reached on an error to begin the bottom of the fifth and Crisp followed by sending a fly down the line in left that was upheld upon review. Three relievers bridged the gap to Grant Balfour, who allowed the first two batters to reach before retiring the next three in the ninth for his 36th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Rangers 1B/DH Lance Berkman (left hip) returned to the lineup for the first time since going on the disabled list July 7 and went 0-for-4. … Texas SS Elvis Andrus (stiff back) missed his second straight game.
