Rays 1, Yankees 0: Rookie Chris Archer scattered two hits en route to his second career shutout and Kelly Johnson blooped a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning as visiting Tampa Bay won its ninth consecutive series.

Archer (6-3), who struck out six and did not walk a batter, defeated New York for the second time in just over one month to extend his winning streak to five games. After handcuffing the Yankees over six solid innings in a 3-1 triumph on June 23, Archer allowed Lyle Overbay's one-out single in the fifth inning and Brett Gardner's two-out double in the sixth.

James Loney continues his stellar series with two singles and Evan Longoria extended his hitting streak to nine games for the Rays, who have won 21 of their last 24 contests.

Tampa Bay finally got to Ivan Nova (4-4) in the sixth inning as Ben Zobrist got aboard after a fielder's choice and promptly stole second base. After Matt Joyce walked, Johnson lifted a 2-1 low fastball and blooped it into center field to plate Zobrist.

Nova suffered the hard-luck loss, permitting one run on six hits and striking out eight as the Yankees fell for the fifth time in seven games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Although eligible to return off the disabled list, New York SS Derek Jeter played in a simulated game in Staten Island on Saturday. The 39-year-old captain competed in one game on July 11 after returning from offseason surgery on his left ankle - only to strain his right quadriceps. ... Tampa Bay RF Wil Myers extended his hitting streak to eight games with a double to lead off the fourth inning. He ended his afternoon 1-for-4, ending his bid for consecutive multiple-hit games at seven - one shy of Carl Crawford's franchise record (2007). Myers is 21-for-45 in his last 11 contests. ... New York DH Travis Hafner underwent an MRI exam on his ailing shoulder that revealed a slight rotator cuff strain and he will be placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday . After batting .318 with six homers in April, Hafner saw his average dip to .205.
