Yankees 2, Rangers 0: Hiroki Kuroda tossed seven scoreless innings to win his third consecutive start and visiting New York earned a split of the four-game series.

Kuroda (10-6) scattered six hits to reach double figures in wins for the fourth consecutive season before turning the game over to the bullpen. David Robertson worked a perfect eighth and Mariano Rivera - honored in pregame ceremonies - pitched around a one-out single in the ninth for his 33rd save in 35 chances.

Light-hitting Austin Romine had a pair of doubles among his career-high three hits and Brent Lillibridge delivered the go-ahead run for the second time in the series for the Yankees, who won for only the third time in nine games.

Left-hander Derek Holland (8-6), who beat New York with a two-hit shutout June 27, was a hard-luck loser as Texas fell for the ninth time in 12 games. He allowed two runs on eight hits in 7 1/3 innings to drop to 1-6 lifetime against the Yankees.

New York got the only run it needed in the sixth inning when Romine stroked a leadoff double and scored on Lillibridge's double. The Yankees tacked on an insurance run in the eighth when Robinson Cano doubled and scored on Eduardo Nunez's groundout.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kuroda has allowed only two runs over his last 26 innings and had his sixth outing of at least seven scoreless frames this year. ... Yankees general manager Brian Cashman held a conference call during the game to discuss the status of 3B Alex Rodriguez, saying his injured quadriceps is improving and should allow him to play in a rehab or simulated game by Aug. 1. ... Texas, which was seeking to win back-to-back series over the Yankees for the first time since 1993, will head to Cleveland for three games beginning Friday while New York will host surging American League East rival Tampa Bay for three games.
