Rangers 8, Yankees 5: Nelson Cruz hit a two-run homer and visiting Texas evened the series at one game apiece.

Adrian Beltre had three hits, including a two-run double, and A.J. Pierzynski added a two-run double as the Rangers improved to 6-1 in their last seven games and won for only the third time in 15 games at Yankee Stadium.

Justin Grimm (7-5) won his second straight start, giving up three runs in five-plus innings to outduel Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte (5-6), who has lost three consecutive starts for the first time since 2008. Joe Nathan, the fourth Texas reliever, pitched a perfect ninth for his 26th save.

Pettitte allowed four runs - three earned - in six innings and Ichiro Suzuki went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer for New York, which lost for the first time (24-1) when scoring at least five runs. Beltre and Pierzynski had back-to-back two-run doubles off Pettitte in the third to give the Rangers a 4-1 lead, but the Yankees got RBI singles from Robinson Cano and Travis Hafner in the sixth.

Cruz restored the three-run lead with a two-run shot off Joba Chamberlain in the seventh, tying the franchise record with his fifth consecutive season with at least 20 home runs. Suzuki answered with a two-run blast off Robbie Ross in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to 6-5 before Texas tacked on two in the ninth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira will undergo season-ending wrist surgery after an MRI exam revealed a torn tendon sheath that cost him the first 53 games of the season had not sufficiently healed. Teixeira was injured during the World Baseball Classic and aggravated the injury upon his return from the disabled list. ... CF Leonys Martin extended his hitting streak to 11 games for the Rangers, who extended their streak of not scoring in the first inning to 18 games. They have also gone 28 games without an extra-base hit in the opening frame, the longest streak in the majors since Oakland's 31-game run in 1984. ... Yankees general manager Brian Cashman apologized for his expletive-laced response to 3B Alex Rodriguez's Twitter posting that he was medically cleared to resume playing. The team released a statement Wednesday saying all parties on are the same page regarding the protocol for talking about injury and rehab.
