Nationals 4, Mets 1:
Dan Haren allowed one run in seven innings to halt an 11-start winless drought for host Washington.

Bryce Harper belted a two-run homer and Ian Desmond and Denard Span went deep on back-to-back pitches in the second inning as the Nationals won for the third time in four games following a six-game losing streak.

Haren (5-11) struck out six, allowed three hits and walked one to snap an eight-game losing streak and win for the first time since May 9. Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect eighth - his 15th consecutive scoreless appearance - and Rafael Soriano worked around a lead single in the ninth for his 26th save following a 62-minute rain delay.

Mets right-hander Dillon Gee (7-8) had his six-game unbeaten streak end, giving up four runs on six hits in seven innings. Gee was 3-0 and had allowed a total of two runs in three starts against the Nationals this season, but doubled that run total in a span of five batters.

Desmond swatted his 16th homer with two outs in the second and Span hit the next pitch for his first blast since Oct. 2, 2012. Harper made it 4-0 with a two-run laser into the seats in center in the third and it stayed that way until David Wright singled home Eric Young Jr. in the sixth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo met with Clippard after the reliever blasted the team's decision to option RHP Drew Storen to Triple-A Syracuse. Rizzo said he disagreed with Clippard's viewpoint but commended him for having a "strong opinion" while also saying that manager Davey Johnson's job is not in jeopardy. ... Young returned to the lineup after missing two games with a strained right knee but SS Justin Turner (shoulder) sat out. ... Mets manager Terry Collins said the team is going to a six-man pitching rotation with the idea of reducing the workload of ace Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler. Harvey and Wheeler will pitch another 70-75 innings, Collins said.
