Marlins 3, Mets 2:
Henderson Alvarez pitched one-run ball into the eighth inning and added a pair of hits while Jake Marisnick blasted his first career home run as host Miami broke through after losing the first two games of the series.

Alvarez (2-1) allowed two runs, six hits and two walks over 7 1/3 innings en route to winning his second straight start. Mike Dunn recorded the final four outs for his third career save and second this season. He stranded an inherited runner at third in the eighth and worked around a leadoff single in the ninth.

Marisnick connected on a 1-0 fastball from Jenrry Mejia (1-1) to put the Marlins on the board in the second. Miami tacked on two runs in the third on consecutive sacrifice flies by Placido Polanco and Giancarlo Stanton.

Ike Davis lined an RBI double into the right-field corner in the sixth to break up the shutout, and the Mets pulled within 3-2 in the eighth as Eric Young Jr. scampered home on a wild pitch by Chad Qualls.

Mejia gave up three runs on six hits over six innings in his second major-league start of the season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Marlins starting pitchers have allowed three or fewer earned runs in 34 of the last 39 games. … The 23-year-old Alvarez has allowed only one run in 20 1/3 innings over his last three outings. … Young nearly had his first home run since May 14 when he tripled off the top of the wall in the third. A video review confirmed the ball stayed in the park.
