White Sox 5, Mets 4: Alexei Ramirez delivered a walkoff RBI single in the ninth inning as host Chicago overcame an embarrassing moment in the top half to claim the opener of the two-game interleague series.

After a two-out error on a pop-up by second baseman Gordon Beckham in the top of the ninth allowed the tying run to score and cost starter Chris Sale a much-needed victory, the White Sox rallied against LaTroy Hawkins (2-1) to begin their nine-game homestand in winning fashion. Jeff Keppinger led off with a single and came around to score four batters later on Ramirez's single down the left-field line.

The hit made a winner of Addison Reed (3-0), who was saddled with his third blown save in 24 opportunities when Beckham collided with third baseman Conor Gillaspie and dropped pinch hitter David Murphy's infield pop to permit David Wright to score and tie the contest at 4.

Sale struck out 13 over eight strong innings, but his winless streak reached five starts. Tyler Flowers homered and Alejandro De Aza recorded two hits and an RBI for the White Sox, who have won four of five at home.

Mets rookie Zack Wheeler lasted 5 1/3 innings in his second major-league start, yielding four runs and four hits. The 23-year-old walked three and struck out one while throwing 109 pitches.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Mets got to Sale for two runs in the first inning on RF Marlon Byrd's sacrifice fly and an RBI single by 1B Josh Satin. ... Wright extended his hitting streak to seven games with a leadoff single in the ninth. ... New York has scored four or more runs in seven of its last eight contests.
