Braves 3, Brewers 2: Andrelton Simmons lined the game-winning single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth as host Atlanta won to keep hold of the National League’s best record.

Justin Upton led off the ninth with a solid single off Donovan Hand (0-5) and advanced when Evan Gattis reached on an error by second baseman Scooter Gennett with one out. Hand got Brian McCann to pop out, but Simmons ripped a breaking ball into the right center-field gap as the Braves remained a half-game ahead of St. Louis for home-field advantage through the NL playoffs.

Craig Kimbrel (4-3) struck out the side in the top of the ninth to get the victory. Gattis had three hits and Freddie Freeman finished with two for Atlanta.

Milwaukee took a 1-0 lead in the third on Jonathan Lucroy’s single, but the Braves evened the score in the fourth on Gattis’ double. Jeff Bianchi’s first home of the season on the first pitch of the fifth even put the Brewers back on top 2-1, but Freeman singled home Jason Heyward in the sixth to tie the game at 2.

Milwaukee starter Tyler Thornburg gave up two runs on seven hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in seven innings. Gennett went 2-for-4 for the Brewers, who struck out 12 times against Atlanta pitching.
