Reds 8, Braves 4: Jay Bruce homered among his three hits and Brandon Phillips drove in three runs as visiting Cincinnati salvaged a split of its four-game series.

Bruce belted a two-run shot in the third inning and fell a triple short of the cycle. Shin-Soo Choo extended his hitting streak to 12 games by going 2-for-3 with two walks, three runs scored and a solo homer. Logan Ondrusek (3-0) notched the win with a scoreless inning of relief.

Atlanta starter Julio Teheran (7-5) allowed five runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, losing at home for just the second time this season. Dan Uggla and Andrelton Simmons launched solo homers for the Braves.

Bruce’s 19th blast of the season capped a four-run third, during which Joey Votto doubled home a run and Phillips plated Choo with a groundout as Cincinnati built a 4-1 advantage. Choo’s 13th homer leading off the fifth pushed the Reds’ lead to 5-2, and Phillips added a two-run double in the ninth.

Atlanta opened the scoring on Gerald Laird’s RBI double in the second and Simmons scored an inning later on Reds shortstop Zack Cozart’s throwing error. Uggla led off the eighth with his 17th homer to bring Atlanta within 5-3, and Simmons belted his eighth shot in the ninth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cincinnati starter Tony Cingrani threw 96 pitches in four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits. … The Braves placed CF B.J. Upton on the disabled list before the game with a strained right adductor muscle. … 1B Evan Gattis, who was rehabbing from a strained oblique muscle at Triple-A Gwinnett, was recalled to take Upton’s place on the roster. Gattis started for 1B Freddie Freeman, who missed the game with a sore thumb.
