Red Sox 11, Mariners 4:
David Ortiz homered, drove in three runs and made some history in support of Felix Doubront as visiting Boston pounded Seattle.

Ortiz doubled in the second inning to pass Harold Baines (1,688) for the all-time lead in hits by a designated hitter, and Jacoby Ellsbury returned to the lineup after a two-game absence to extend his hitting streak to 18 games with a 3-for-4 effort. Shane Victorino added a pair of RBIs for the Red Sox, who pulled even at 3-3 on their 10-game road trip.

Doubront (6-3), who allowed a run and five hits in seven innings, has earned the win in back-to-back starts for the first time since April. Veteran right-hander Aaron Harang (4-8) was not quite as sharp for the Mariners, surrendering seven runs on eight hits and three walks in five-plus frames.

Ortiz scored on Jarrod Saltalamacchia’s sacrifice fly during a two-run second and made it a 4-0 lead an inning later, when he came up with Dustin Pedroia on first and belted an 0-1 fastball deep into the stands in right-center field.

Victorino added an RBI single in the fourth and plated another run with a base hit during a four-run rally in the sixth. Ellsbury also delivered an RBI single and Ortiz chipped in a sacrifice fly during the uprising as the lead swelled to 9-0.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Ortiz also holds the records for most runs, doubles, home runs and RBIs by a DH. He is 8-for-10 in the last three games and has pulled into second place in the American League with a .331 batting average. … Boston RHP Brandon Workman made his major-league debut in the eighth and allowed three runs, including a leadoff homer by Brendan Ryan. He recovered to work a perfect ninth. … Mariners rookie 2B Nick Franklin left in the seventh inning with knee soreness.
