Rays 5, Orioles 4: James Loney lined a pinch-hit solo homer in the bottom of the ninth as Tampa Bay finished a four-game sweep in a contest marred by what appeared to be a serious knee injury to Orioles All-Star Manny Machado.

Loney hit the second pitch by Tommy Hunter (6-5) into the right-field seats as Tampa Bay pushed its lead to one game over Cleveland for the first American League wild-card spot - and two over Texas. Wil Myers collected two hits and two RBIs, Jose Molina added two hits and an RBI while Tim Beckham contributed his first major-league RBI for the Rays.

Machado’s left leg buckled when he hit the right side of the first-base bag in the seventh inning after his second single of the contest and he collapsed in intense pain. Chris Davis belted a two-run homer for his major league-leading 52nd for the Orioles, who are five games behind Cleveland for the second AL wild-card spot.

Davis belted a 1-0 pitch way over the center field wall and J.J. Hardy added an RBI single with two outs in the fourth for a 3-1 lead. Beckham singled and scored on Molina’s two-out double in the fourth, but Brian Roberts answered with a solo homer to right on the second pitch of the fifth.

The Rays tied it in the seventh when second baseman Alexi Casilla could not hold Myers’ blooper after colliding with right fielder Nick Markakis and hitting the turf, allowing two runs to score. Joel Peralta (3-8) pitched a perfect ninth inning to get the win for the Rays.
