Brewers 8, Astros 7: Cesar Izturis snapped an eighth-inning tie with an RBI infield single and Cody Ransom followed with a three-run homer as host Milwaukee won for just the second time in 11 games.

Houston, which has lost 13 of 14 and 26 of 29, saw a 3-0 lead disappear but evened the contest against Livan Hernandez (3-1) in the top of the eighth. The Brewers quickly moved back ahead as Jonathan Lucroy led off the bottom half with a double off Francisco Cordero (0-3) and scored two batters later on Izturis' infield hit.

Ransom, who entered the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh, put the exclamation point on the victory by depositing Xavier Cedeno's 1-0 pitch into the Brewers' bullpen for his ninth blast of the season.

The Astros scored three times in the ninth to get within one but stranded the tying run at third base as John Axford recorded the final two outs for his 17th save in 24 chances.

All-Star Jose Altuve helped stake starter Bud Norris to a 2-0 advantage, leading off the game with a single and scoring on a sacrifice fly by Steve Pearce before lifting a sacrifice fly of his own in the third to plate Jordan Schafer. Scott Moore made it 3-0 in the seventh with his fifth home run of the season.

Held to a pair of infield singles over six innings, Milwaukee got to Norris in the seventh as Nyjer Morgan belted a two-run homer and Izturis followed with a double. Cordero came on and recorded an out before allowing three straight singles, including one by Aramis Ramirez that gave the Brewers a 4-3 edge.

Altuve and Pearce teamed up to get Houston even in the eighth. Altuve led off the frame with a single off Hernandez and scored on Pearce's double two batters later.

Pearce finished with three RBIs and Altuve scored three runs for the Astros, who have not won consecutive games since June 26-27.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Norris remained winless since May 21, a span of 10 starts ... Milwaukee LF Ryan Braun missed the game due to blisters on his left hand ... With their relief corps leading the league in losses and blown saves, the Brewers fired bullpen coach Stan Kyles. Lee Tunnell, the team's minor league pitching coordinator, will take over for Kyles ... Veteran RHP Seth McClung was released by Milwaukee's Triple-A affiliate in Nashville.
