Reds 3, Cardinals 1: Scott Rolen homered and Jay Bruce delivered the go-ahead single to lift visiting Cincinnati, but St. Louis still clinched the second wild card berth.

The Cardinals punched their ticket to the National League playoffs when the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the San Francisco Giants later Tuesday night. St. Louis will visit Atlanta in the wild card game on Friday.

Mat Latos (14-4) allowed one run and four hits in five innings to temporarily end his struggles against St. Louis. Latos was 1-4 with a 10.24 ERA in six career starts against the Cardinals entering the contest.

Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect ninth for his 38th save in 43 opportunities as the Reds (97) remain tied with the Washington Nationals for most victories in the NL.

Matt Holliday hit a sacrifice fly in the first for St. Louis. Rolen tied the contest with his homer to left in the fourth before Bruce smacked the tiebreaking single off Chris Carpenter (0-2) in the sixth. Dioner Navarro added a run-scoring single later in the frame.
