Mets 2, Astros 1: Ike Davis belted his second homer of the contest with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as host New York took two of three from Houston.

After leading off the fourth inning with a blast, Davis deposited an offering from Wilton Lopez (5-2) just over the outstretched glove of right fielder Ben Francisco to whip Citi Field into a frenzy. His second career walk-off homer was Davis' 24th of the season - and seventh at home.

Pitching for the first time since daughter Jaylee was born on Wednesday, rookie Jeremy Hefner was masterful. The 26-year-old, who was making his eighth big-league start, matched a season-high with seven strikeouts in eighth innings - but ran into trouble in the ninth.

After All-Star Jose Altuve had a pinch-hit single and stole second, Marwin Gonzalez lofted a fly ball down the left-field line. Outfielder Lucas Duda, who was just recalled from Triple-A Buffalo prior to the game, had the ball carom of his glove as Altuve scored.

Duda atoned for the miscue by throwing out Gonzalez at the plate following Francisco's single to left field. Gonzalez disputed the call and was ejected from the game.

Bobby Parnell (3-3) picked up the win after getting the final two outs of the ninth inning.

Davis opened the scoring after launching a slider from rookie Lucas Harrell into the upper deck in right field. The homer was only the 11th allowed in 26 starts for Harrell.

The contest was the final one between the teams before Houston heads to the American League in 2013. The clubs entered the majors together in 1962.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Harrell, who retired his final 12 batters after Davis' blast, permitted one run on two hits and struck out seven in as many innings. ... Duda went 0-for-2 in his first game with the Mets since July 22. New York optioned Jordany Valdespin to Triple-A Buffalo. ... Mets 2B Daniel Murphy returned from a two-day absence (rest) and went 0-for-4. ... New York will enjoy Monday off before beginning a three-game set at National League East rival Philadelphia. ... Houston will also take Monday off before hosting San Francisco for a three-game series.
