Yankees 2, Blue Jays 1: Ichiro Suzuki singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to cap his 7-for-8 performance in New York's doubleheader sweep of visiting Toronto.

David Phelps gave the Yankees 6 2/3 strong innings in a spot start, allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Cody Eppley (1-2) recorded the final out in the eighth for the win, and Rafael Soriano worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save of the day and his 42nd of the season.

Toronto starter Ricky Romero was unable to snap his 13-game losing streak despite allowing just one run on seven hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked five. Steve Delabar (4-3) was charged with the loss.

Curtis Granderson drew a leadoff walk in the eighth, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, stole third and scored on Suzuki's looping single to left - his fourth hit of the game - as the Yankees jumped a half-game up on Baltimore atop the American League East. The Orioles beat Seattle 3-1 in 11 innings later Wednesday.

Both teams scored in the second, as Adeiny Hechavarria gave Toronto a 1-0 lead with an RBI single and Chris Stewart evened the score with a run-scoring ground-rule double in the bottom half. The Blue Jays loaded the bases in the seventh to chase Phelps, but Boone Logan got a groundout from Moises Sierra to end the threat.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees SS Derek Jeter recorded his 200th hit of the season with a leadoff single in the first. It's his eighth 200-hit season, matching Lou Gehrig for the most by a Yankee. Only Suzuki (10), Pete Rose (10) and Ty Cobb (9) have more. … Jeter is the oldest player with 200 hits since Paul Molitor in 1996. … Suzuki tied a Yankees single-game record with four stolen bases, most recently accomplished by Tony Womack in 2005.
