Yankees 3, Rangers 0: Nick Swisher slammed a two-run homer and Hiroki Kuroda pitched a two-hitter as host New York won for the sixth time in seven games.

Mark Teixeira followed Swisher’s homer with a blast of his own as the Yankees defeated Texas for the seventh straight time at Yankee Stadium.

Kuroda (11-8) struck out five and walked two while tossing his fourth career shutout. The victory was Kuroda’s first since July 23.

Kuroda took a no-hitter into the seventh before Elvis Andrus led off the inning by reaching on an infield single. Shortstop Jayson Nix made a diving stop on Andrus' grounder up to the middle, but Andrus easily beat Nix’s throw to first.

Texas starter Matt Harrison (13-7) was the hard-luck loser despite leaving with the game scoreless in the seventh. Harrison was removed after allowing Derek Jeter’s one-out single and Alexi Ogando entered and was greeted by Swisher’s prodigious shot into the right-center field stands. Teixeira then lined a homer to right.

Jeter moved into 12th place on the career hits list with a first-inning single off Harrison. Jeter has 3,244 career hits and broke a tie with Nap Lajoie (3,242 from 1896-1916).

Michael Young singled in the eighth for Texas’ other hit against Kuroda.

Harrison allowed five hits in 6 1/3 innings. He gave up three walks and struck out two.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jeter had two hits and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Eddie Murray (3,255) is next for Jeter to chase down on the career hits list. … Texas OF Josh Hamilton was hitless in three at-bats to end an 11-game hitting streak. … Swisher has two homers and seven RBIs in the first two games of the series. … Yankees LHP Andy Pettitte (ankle) has made enough progress that he will begin long-tossing later this week. … The Rangers signed C Koyie Hill to a minor-league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Round Rock. Hill was released by the Washington Nationals earlier this month.
