Mariners 1, Yankees 0: Felix Hernandez scattered two hits en route to recording his 21st career complete game and Mike Carp's two-out RBI single in the second inning stood up as visiting Seattle posted its eighth win in nine outings.

Former Yankees farmhand Jesus Montero, John Jaso and Eric Thames joined Carp by collecting a pair of hits apiece for the Mariners.

Jaso led off the second inning with a double to right field and advanced to third on Kyle Seager's groundout. Two batters later, Carp went the other way and deposited an offering from Hiroki Kuroda (10-8) into shallow left center to produce the game's lone run.

The modest offense proved to be enough for Hernandez (10-5), who won his sixth straight decision after striking out six in his seventh career shutout, and third this season.

Kuroda (10-8) saw his four-game winning streak come to an end with the hard-luck loss. He permitted one run on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Seattle SS Brendan Ryan exited the game in the seventh inning after he was hit on the elbow by a pitch from Kuroda and replaced by Munenori Kawasaki. X-rays were negative. Ryan said his elbow was extremely sore, though, and he is unlikely to play Sunday. ... New York failed to homer for the first time in 22 home games. ... Derek Jeter's seven-game hitting streak came to an end after an 0-for-4 performance. ... New York 3B Eric Chavez, who exited Friday's 6-3 win in the eighth inning with an ankle injury, started Saturday's contest. He went 0-for-3.
